Last night BoO went in and finished up the Naxx 25 we had started on Thursday. For the most part it went fairly smoothly, but it took us about 3 ½ hours to finish clearing the last three wings before Sapph and KT.

Now I could go on about the 9 healers we had during Sapph’s fight, or the fact that we wiped in Gothik because the undead side all died due to lack of heals and some DPS… but a bigger issue was raised at the end of the night.

During most of these farm raids, or any lesser than progression raid, I take on the responsibility of being loot master because 1. not a lot of people are up to the responsibility and the constant qq over gear, and 2. I don’t mind taking some stress off the officers who are leading the raid.

There have only been two or three occasions I can remember mislooting something to someone, but thank god for being able to trade it to trade it to eligible raiders now. But a question was raised at the end of the night due to a certain scene that went out of hand over the shield that KT dropped.

Now, this is a very controversial subject in my guild right now.

One of the warrior in the run was running as a DPS spec, but he did inform me his main spec was prot, so he would be rolling for prot gear.

Alright, no problem.

What was the problem is that at the end of the night, the shield off KT dropped.

Before said warrior joined the group (because he came in halfway through), the shield, if it were to drop, was going to be defaulted to Mach because he needed it as an upgrade. Mach is the GM and the progression MT. So an upgrade for him makes things easier for the rest of us for progression raids.

Remembering this as I got to the shield, I received a tell reminding me that said warrior was rolling for prot gear so I would remember when he rolled.

I was now obligated to post the shield for rolls to be fair.

Mach lost the roll. The events that ensued were not pleasant.

I tried reasoning with the warrior telling him it was the guild progression MT who needed it. But he literally proceeded to QQ because he won the roll.

Now, some of you are thinking. “Well if he won the roll he won the roll… shit happens, it’s a game.”

But others are thinking “Well… and upgrade for him makes it easier for healers to keep him alive during progression which makes it easier to also focus on keeping DPS alive while the upgrade in gear also helps Tank threat output so DPS doesn’t pull, etc”… a domino effect.

Steve, as subtly as he could, promptly left the raid, logged, and went to smoke. The friends of said warrior then began to laugh at the situation, and began to crack jokes regarding Mach’s reaction.

This is my boyfriend you’re talking about. I then proceeded to open my big mouth.

I told them they needed to look at things from his perspective. The GM who puts all of his time and effort into helping the guild and it’s members. Bending over backwards to cater to their needs, gets shit on my a new recruit who hardly even raids. Steve has spent 6-8 hours a week in Naxx 25, trying to get that shield for months… that’s literally DAYS of his life spent for nothing.

Someone then decided to speak out against me and state that if he saw it as a waste then he’s a greedy GM. (not exact words but close)

It was then that all hell broke loose in vent. Old members and officers against the new recruits who just did not understand. Said recruit who spoke out against me then stated that he could understand why Mach was so angry because he too put forth a lot of effort to help guildies, but Steve was being ridiculous over a game.

The argument ended when Blacklion promptly informed said recruit that he was NOTHING like Mach and no where near committed like our GM. The recruit then left.

The issue had turned from a low recruit getting loot over the progression MT, to the guild defending thier GM reputation that I had seemed to soil now. Something I’m going to regret doing and desperately try to repent for.

So how do you draw the line between deserving loot and whoring loot?

A GM lost a huge upgrade, one of the best shield in the game, a GM who is our 25 man Ulduar MT, a GM who puts forth all his time and effort into the guild cutting gems for those who need it, keeping the gbank filled and organized with herbs, flasks, food, catering to the members and their needs, trying to please EVERYONE because he’s trying to be a good GM.

But the new recruit warrior who doesn’t even raid won the roll.

You decide.

I’m sure everyone has heard that line, “Here’s yer sign…” from the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, where a joke just flies over someone’s head and the irony of the situation is almost incomprehensible? Well… I had a “Here’s yer sign…” moment last night.

Remember how I said we were going to ‘steamroll’ Naxx 25 because we’ve had it on farm for heaven knows how long? And remember how I said that I was either going to have a post full of Win or a post full of Fail? Well… even though we’re trying to progress in Ulduar 25, but see to be getting stuck with the same people who are clueless, we still can’t even clear more than one wing in Naxx 25 in two and a half hours.

….Here’s yer sign…

It took me a moment, and as much as I hate to admit it -in which I didn’t want to publicly admit it in front of everyone- but should we really, honestly and truly, be trying to replace Naxx 25 runs with Ulduar 25 runs with the gear level of 60% of the raid barely, just barely, at Ulduar 10 standards??

Last night, granted yes we did have some of our core DPS, healers, and a core tank, but the rest of the group, some composed with a sprinkle of alts, should NOT have taken 2 ½ hours to clear construct wing in Naxx 25.

Let me give you a break down on how this run went.

Patchwerk
This fight, is not hard.

1st Attempt
So far so good, get Patchwerk to 60%… Mikata bites the dust, hateful tank down, tried to Brez, didn’t get it in time, half the raid down, we wipe it.

Mikata only has 38.6k health… arjthgapghap;g And I was a hateful tank because the other alt tank who was tanking the boss only had 35k health.

2nd Attempt
Insta wipe… DUMB ASS MURRI DECIDES TO CHARGE THE BOSS THROUGH THE FUCKING SLIME!!!

3rd Attempt
MURRI CHARGES THE GOD DAMNED BOSS AGAIN!!!

ASJA:EHP:AKWRHEHGKAJA”OJHG:ALKNJH:KANEH

4TH FUCKING ATTEMPT AT PATCHWERK
Steve steps in, tells Murri to GTFO and tanks the boss.

Patch dies.

Grobb
This boss was a surprising one shot. Yes, we did have people dropping bombs in the middle of the raid like scrubs, but it seemed everyone else had the common sense to GTFO the green shit.

Gluth
Being the tank with the second highest health, and the only one out of Murri and myself Atropus could trust, I got the honor of swap tanking the boss with Andy.

Macharious: “MIKATA TAUNT!!”
Me: “I DID, ATROPUS TAUNTED BACK!!”
Atropus: “MY STACKS FELL OFF!!”
Me: “NO THEY DIDN’T, YOU’VE GOT 6!!”
Atropus: “Oh damn… TAUNT BACK!!”

/facepalm

Gluth dies.

Thaddius
We spend 20 MINUTES figuring out who is healing, who is tanking, who is DPSing what side, Hunt and Amber argue over recount because Hunt is retarded and needs to be globally muted sometimes, and it’s just OMFG LET GO.

Since Murri can’t prot DPS for shit (like my tank spec feral dps is any better, aisjhgpajg), he’s tanking one of the bosses. They both die, we jump down to Thadd. About 30 seconds in we hear.

Atropus: “Murri… do NOT pull him off me, watch your THREAT!!”
Murri: “Oh, sorry, my bad. I’m in defensive stance.”
Macharious: “Why are you in defensive stance? Switch to zerker stance.”
Murri: “Alright, but I’ll switch back here soon, I get more DPS in defensive stance.”
Macharious: “No the fuck you don’t, stay in zerker stance.”

Thaddius dies.

Keep in mind, between every pull we have to stop or slow down for one reason or another. Someone leaves or someone has to be replaced, or someone has to be globally muted, WTFE. This shit is taking too damn long.

We go to try our hand in the Military Wing.

Instructor Razuvious

1st Attempt
The healers can’t seem to keep the understudies up for shit, and they keep dying. So what happens?

RAZUVIOUS CRAZY ANGRY RAGE PEW PEW EVERYONE DIE.

Mikata trys to taunt him, pops Survival Instincs, has 50k health, and gets oneshotted and omnomnom’s the floor.

Amber: “Where is my tank, my understudy is attacking me!”
Atropus: “Your tank is dead.”

Everyone dies.

2nd Attempt

WHY ARE THE ADDS DYING, THE BOSS IS RUNNING AROUND EVERYWHERE, HALF THE RAID IS DEAD, PICK UP AN ADD, TAUNT, BONE ARMOR, OMFG!!!!!!

Everyone dies.

We call it a night.

Yes… a night full of disappointments, Here’s yer sign… that leads me to the conclusion:

How can we expect to make very much progress in Ulduar 25 when we can barely… BARELY handle a raid we’ve had on farm for so long. I’m not sure if it was the lack of focus, or the lack of commitment, but we shouldn’t have had these problems. I get the feeling that most of these new recruits just aren’t taking it seriously. (Yes, I know it’s a game, get the fuck off my back, I don’t like wasting 3 hours of my life for school yard bullshit in a game I play to enjoy.)

I think it’s time we should reevaluate our current raiding situation.

Last night my guild went in to finish up our first Ulduar 25 we had begun on Wednesday. The run on Monday didn’t go as horribly as some of us assumed it would, we actually managed to down Loot Mobile, Razorscale, and Ignis. (In all honesty the Ignis down was a total shock after wiping so many times.) Well as we went back in last night, we had hopes of clearing up to Kolo, and putting in attempts as IC and Auriaya.

Well, I’ve realized you can’t always get what you ask for. As painful as it was last night, we only managed to down XT.

We attempted Kolo, but his problem was people were constantly sawing people in half with the lazer… WTF!? Because it’s so hard to see a giant beam of blue light following you. On top of that, the DPS we had wasn’t quit meeting the minimum standard we were hoping for. I was resto for this particular raid, but as kitty I can usually hold my own in a 25 man pulling roughly 3-4k depending on the situation in my T7 and miscellaneous Naxx 25 gear.

Boss-man Mach wanted to have a minumum of 3K DPS that some people, granted it was mostly because of thier gear level, couldn’t quite meet that minimum requirement. So, the only solution, to try and continue as many Naxx 25 and Ulduar 10 raids as possible to gear the remaining members of our guild to Ulduar 25 standards. There’s only one small problem.

We have 3 main tanks in the guild, and only a few members who have alts or off-specs to tank and are willing to put up with the harrassment in raids we give our tanks. On top of that, all three of them are limiting thier tanking quota so they don’t get burnt out. So the question is who are we going to pester to tank these Naxx 25 and Ulduar 10 mans?

“You know Mika…. we don’t have a druid tank…”

“>.> Yeah…. aaaaaand??”

“Well you ARE the only kitty in the guild…”

“Sooo….???”

“Well it wouldn’t be hard for you to swap out some gems and gear and you-”

“Hahahahahaha…. WHAT!?”

And that is how I was guilted into considering to tank for the guild’s lower raids.

So today at work I’ve spent my morning reading up on different forums and blogs doing my research for stats that druid tanks require. It doesn’t seem that difficult, to sum everything up I’ve come to the conclusion I can be hit capped, expertise capped, with ~37k health and 35k armor in a week or two, no problem. Between being an avoidence or mitigation tank was a bit of a tough choice, but from the readings I’ve gathered, mitigation is the way to go in progression content for druid tanks.

After being a healer for so long, it’ll be interesting to see things from the other end of the spectrum.
